well what do you want to fix? internet access or yum not working? Obviously if you can't reach the net, yum won't work, so I don't understand why you're telling us the yum stuff in the first place. just go through the basics, got an ip? ot a default route? can you ping the default route? got a name server? can you resolve google.com? etc....

thanks for reply chris.

I want to resolve internet access . I thought yum error message could give better idea about the issue.hence posted that. I can't resolve google.com.

ok, so what about all the other things?

How do you connect ?

What is the output of ifconfig ?
Is there anything in /etc/resolve.conf ?
Can you ping e.g. 74.125.233.16 (google.co.za) ?

i am guessing that this is the current CentOS 5.6 ???

if NOT then use a different machine and download it( CentOS5.6) and install that !!!

if it is 5.6

you might want to read the cent and red hat network documentation

Also is this a 56k dial up ?
ot dsl ?
or cable ?
or wireless ?

there is a very big difference is all of them

also is this a desktop ? or laptop?
not all wireless is supported by the older code in REHL6

Why?? that's pretty drastic, I wouldn't recommend that, especially given the almost non-existent amount of information we've been given.
