Unable to clean install Linux-XP

This is my first experience with linux:

I've downloaded the linux.iso file and burned to CD for installation on a separate computer - clean install for a friend. It previously had Windows XP installed but could barely get to logon screen from what he considered to many viruses and downloaded junk. I used the fdisk tool to delete the primary partition and create a new one, thinking it best to wipe it clean and start from scratch.

When I reboot with linux-xp disk containing .iso file I get "selected boot device not available"...read a few threads and made a boot disk from .iso image, weh I reboot with it I get "missing operating system" ??

Do I need to do something else with the .iso file to initiate install, or do I need to do something else to the system before it will allow the install?

Hope I haven't blown it by wiping out the partition, the owener doesn't have the windows xp disk to reinstall?

Appreciate any help

The computer is able to boot from CD and is set to do so in the BIOS?

The iso file was burned as an image file and not simply copied?

Yes, I've set it to boot from CD first and tried F12 at start, going to boot menu and selecting cd drive.

Hey thanks, I had just copied it to disk, didn't burn image. Working now!
