Unable to Browse the web Ubuntu Distro
 
hi peeps i have just completed my 1st ubuntu installation everything else is working fine i configured my net connection settings to my isp using pppoe. connecting direct using my dsl modem to my ISp . I have managed to get connected i have been assigned an ip address , but the problem arises when i try to browse the web.
pages are not loading i tryed disconnecting and reconnecting but the problem still occurs. are they any settings i have missed out or steps i have to take inorder to get it working.

help is appreciated.

How did you setup your network connection? I notice you are using DSL, do you have a router or firewall that connects between the modem and your PC? If so, do you have the gateway and everything configured properly?

no its a direct connection , the configrations password for accessing my isp are all entered correctly, i have been assigned an ip address but am unable to browse the net .. tryd connectin my irc it aint connecting either.

ok i have changed my settings once more ping is workng now am getting a response frm google. connecting not directly but via an adsl router. i have managed to obtain a local ip address. 192.168.x.x the strange thing is i cant Browse the the web. but wen i switch to windows xp am able to brwse the net. either its smethin small am missin or they are sme hardware compatibilty problems.

What does it say in /etc/resolv.conf?
It should say something like
Code:

nameserver aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd
nameserver eee.fff.jjj.kkk

where aaa, bbb and so on should be numbers, the numerical address of your ISP's nameserver.
If you don't know the numbers, ask Google to show you pages that contain the word nameserver and your ISP's name

well my .config has the dns server and its correct
my dns is assigned to me by my isp

202.188.0.133

202.188.1.5
