Unable access information about hard drive

Fellow Linux Users:

I am trying to make partitions on my hard drive and there is no output to:

Code:
fdisk -l
If I try
Code:
cfdik
I get a Fatal Error read only mode on a 690MB partition.

HD size is ~36GB.

Are you running fdisk as root (or sudo)? I know on my Debian box I get nada as a normal user.
