unable 2 hear music on linux

i just installed linux 8.0 . when i go for sound card detection, it detects the correct sound card , yet it cannot find audio mixer with aumix command, nd it gives an error window in the beginning relating to sound device . i cannot hear ne sound and music on linux.plz tell me how 2 solve the problem.my system configuration is intel 1.7 ghz processor and motherboard is 845g chipset...

You will need to provide more information:
-What sound hardware are you using?
-Which distribution are you using (there's no such thing as Linux 8.0 :-) - you may mean Redhat Linux 8.0 or Mandrake Linux 8.0).

Additionally, please run `lsmod` from a terminal as root, and post the output.

Personally I solved this problem by editing XMMS Preferences (Ctrl+P). In Preferences I selected ARTS drivers as Output and then it worked fine.
