Un installing things installed from source

is their a special command for removing things installed for source? yum remove doesn't work on them.

Im running FC7

Look at the INSTALL or README documentation that came with the source package. Some might say you can perform a make uninstall in the source directory, while others say to manually remove contents of what was installed.

If you still have the source tree and haven't changed anything like executing make clean, you might get lucky and there will be an uninstall target. You would then just execute make uninstall. Otherwise, rm -f individually on every file that was installed.

That's the advantage of package managers, they keep track of every file and directory installed by a package so they can easily be removed. Different ones do it different ways, but they "all" do it.

You could try "make uninstall" as root from the directory where you built the package.
