Ummm...not sure what to do...

Well I've searched the boards for something that might help, but nothing has really helped so I'm just asking for some assistance...anyway...I had WinXP, BeOS, and Red Hat 9 running fine, but I couldn't get Grub to work after I made a new partition. It just went to a grub text screen and I didn't know what to do after that. Well then I got my Red Hat Disk 1 and tried to reinstall Grub, but then at the end said "could not find kernal image"...I booted up in rescue mode and typed "grub-install" (as someone talked about on another post) but it said that I needed to put some more commands or something like that...if you need exactly what it said for that I can add that in another post...I was just wondering if anyone had experience with this and if they could pull it off without having to reinstall Linux...thanks...
