ultra66 ide and mandrake...

hello right now i have currently installed linux mandrake 8 on my gateway pentium3 which has a promise tecknology ultra66 ide controller. I have 4 windows partitions 3 of which are logical, then i have my linux partitions which are root swap and home. im using grub and when i go to boot up i need to define root as hda8 when it says its hde8. so i get to boot then it cant find my swap file becuase its looking for hde9 when i think it should be hda9 considering i only have one harddrive with these partitons. my problem is that mandrake cant reconize my ultra66 controller and it wont let me edit /etc/fstab without my swap file is there a way to define my swap file as hda9 so that i can get into /etc/fstab and change the listings of hde to hda PLEASE HELP and do you know if my ultra66 controller would work with redhat 7.1? :newbie:

If the kernel image you have support msdos file systems then you should be able to mount it.

mount -t msdos /dev/floppy /mnt

...

I suggest that you boot off of a floppy and change your fstab that way. If Mandrake does not supply one then go to slackware.com and download a set of boot floppies. You can boot off of the floppies, mount whatever partition you need and change your fstab file.

I have a Promise udma 100 card and it works good with the 2.4.2 kernel.
