ufsdump explained

By default, does ufsdump compress files when it writes to tape? The man pages for this command do not say and I can't find anything on the INternet that explains this command in any real depth.

Disregard the last entry. I have resolved my issue. Another individual in my company was using the ufsdump process to backup a file of the same name that I was using.

I mistook this file for my own and thought that ufsdump automatically compressed files since this second file of the same name was considerably smaller.
