udev hangs on bootup

Hi all, first thread, total linux n00b. No clue really what i am doing. This seems to be a big trial and error session for me right now.

I have 2 laptops...

mpc transport 2300 1.6 ghz 512 mb ram 40 gb hard drive

dell latitude d620 1.6 ghz 512 mb ram 40 gb hd.

as you can see both are almost exactly the same. only issue is that when i attempted to load fc5 on the mpc ... it installs fine, then reboots... and hangs at "starting udev:"

the dell worked just fine. what?!?!? there are a few hardware differences such as the mpc has a built in fingerprint scanner, firewire port, and sd card reader. ive been at this for 2 days already!!! and if you are wondering if i let the bootup run long enough.... i let it run all night last night... in the morning it was still stuck at "starting udev"

any help would be a HUGE favor. thanks
