[SOLVED] UBUNTU Wireless connectivity results mystery

I have ubuntu desktops and had the following results
Netgear WG 311- went right on line
Netgear WG 311v3 failed (could not see signal)
Encore 802.11g failed (could not see signal)
Linksys WMP 54G went right on line (weak signal strength)
I did not load drivers even if I knew how. What is up with this? Would drivers help? The BIOS in one case was Dell and the other Compaq. They both had the same "pass/fail" results. What else could it be? Anybody else have success with other units/desktops? ---bill

Add the Sinmax RTL 8187 to the list of "no driver required"
