I have windows 7 laptop, Dell. I downloaded the newest edition of Ubuntu (Twice)to see if it would install and dual boot beside Windows 7. Unsucessful on several attempts. Once I reboot the computer it will give ma a choice of 7 or Ubuntu. I decide on Ubuntu it starts to boot into Ubuntu than a black screen with all types of Kernel error codes that i'm unfamilur with. one is---(1.292618) kernel panic-not syncing: no working init found.

Try passing init option to Kernel (see Linux Documentation/init.txt for guidance..

I am not sure what all this means any help would be appreactiated...

If the computer came with windows 7 installed or runs well with it, you should be able to run Ubuntu.
Did you do an md5 checksum on the iso file after downloading to verify it?
What method did you use to install? Did you download the Ubuntu iso file and burn it as an image to a DVD? or did you put it on a flash drive to make it bootable and if so, what software did you use for this process? Did you get a success message at the end of the install?

To get more information for someone to assist you, I would suggest that you boot the Ubuntu installation medium and go to the site below and download the bootinfoscript and run it. This will output a results.txt file which you can post here. Make sure you read the instructions in the link in the Description box so you know how to run the script.

I did not do a md5 checksum what ever that is...I download the oS twice because it wouldn't install the first time. I used a USB disk Flash drive to install it. I used something called Pin software from the site to install..Did get a success at end of message. I don't understand to download http://sourceforge.net/projects/bootinfoscript/ this software when I can't get into Ubuntu...Just a black screen of error codes...

In your first post, you indicate you did install Ubuntu but cannot boot from your hard drive. You had to use a DVD or flash drive to install it so boot the DVD or flash drive, go to the site and download it and read the instructions.

I finally got Ubuntu 14.10 to install- I download and used the Pin Drive installer again for my USB drive. http://www.ubuntu.com/download/deskt...ick-on-windows. I once again loaded Ubuntu beside windows 7 dualboot this time and was able follow all directions as listed. This time I did not get any errors which was a pleasent surprize. I believe the last two I download were maybe infected or just bad downloads. http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop


so far it's working fine just I need to see what I need to do first as updating the system and what securities I may need for any software to run smoothly.
