Ubuntu update

I have been working with uBuntu 9.4 in my PC pretty well and decided to update it to 10.4, everything was running ok, but at the final step when nthe PC was reinitiated, what appears is just a black screen with a trace in the left upper corner of the screen bliping and I can not reach to restart the computer, what I need to do?

What happens if you press ctrl + alt + F1?

Did you have any errors/message during the update that might indicate a problem? Did you get a success message? How and where did you install the Grub bootloader? That's what I would guess is the problem. Ubuntu 9.04 used Grub Legacy and 10.04 uses Grub2 which are pretty different so what did you do about the bootloader and do you have a Live CD to use to mount your installation partition to look it over?
