Ubuntu Studio Wireless Problem

I recently made the switch from windows to Ubuntu Studio. This was especially appealing after seeing all of the fun programs that come with it. However, I can not get ubuntu to recognize my wireless card (internal or external). I have an older laptop, and from what i have gathered from reading, there is no hope for my internal card. But, i have a external card, Netgear WG11T, and i was hoping i could get it to work. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get wireless without having to buy a whole new card?
