Ubuntu Software Center does not work properly

Hey mates,
Few weeks ago I installed Linux Ubuntu 9.10 and everything was fine. However, Iḿ now triyng to install programs from the Ubuntu Software Center and it does not work properly. I just select the program I want to install and press the button, but I do not get a response. Net connection is ok, so the problem is somewhere else.

Could you please show me a clue. Many Thanks

Do you mean to say Synaptic? What is the error? If there is no error give the screenshot.

Welcome to LQ.

For the "Package Manager" = 'synaptic' to work,
you will have to click the "Refresh" button.

Or you can open a terminal window and type :
sudo apt-get update

Then you will have access to all 23,000 packages.
