UBUNTU slow right after install
Hello,
I just installed ubuntu 9.04 (UBUNTU Ultimate 2.3) on an IBM Think PAD. 1.6 Pentium CPU 1gig RAM 60gig HDD Directly after the install slowness occurs: During boot, startup sound plays and there is a 30second hold before graphics are displayed. General Window moving. The windows lag when moving them from one edge of a screen to another. They also lag when minimised or maximised. Terminal lags when opening and when typing. __________________________________________________________________- Things I have tried to resolve this issue: First, with the version I had...I noticed it had KUBUNTU pkgs installed. I went onto UBUNTU help and was given a command to remove all KUBUNTU extras. I have also removed GDM to boot directly into term. I have checked to make sure that appearance settings are at minimal. I would love to switch to linux full time, I have it running on my PC now and it works great...the laptop...NOT SO GREAT. Any help would be great. |
Which video device is in your thinkpad. There is an issue with the latest Intel video driver (as used in Ubuntu 9.04) with certain Intel video devices; it's often described as 'jerky video' and that sounds like your description as well.
If it's Intel, wait a few days till 9.10 comes out (or install the release candidate) and try again. Or use 8.04 (LTS version). |
Have you tried another distro to see if its a hardware issue are the distro its self?
