Ubuntu server 8.10

Greetings:
Even though this is server related I posted here as I am definitely a newb. I have been trying to log into my samba server remotely with no luck. I am able to log in using ssh or filezilla remotely and can see my samba shares from my local windows computer. I am wondering if I am using the right text from network places, win xp is my remote os, I am using the following with no results
smb: //***.***.***.***\home\bob\shares
if this is wrong could someone please show me the correct
way. Thanks

When accessing from windows just use http://***.***.***.***\home\bob\shares when accessing a windows computer from linux use smb://***.***.***.***\home\bob\shares. You also had a space between smb: // make sure there are no spaces and lastly use Internet Explorer!

From Windows, all you should have to do is type: \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\share\location

Thanks for taking the time to reply but still no joy. Will be spending a little time on it today. I am thinking it has to be something in the settings that is wrong. I cannot ssh the server from linux on my dual boot machine but have no problem when it is running xp. Gives the message no route to host from ssh. When trying from kde it shows the server but I cannot access my shares. Any ideas would be welcome and appreciated.
Bob
