Ubuntu Screenshare on Lan

Good day Team,

I am trying to get the screenshare from Ubuntu server to a LG smart TV which is on IP.

Please suggest the best way that you can think about.

Please note, HDMI, VGA, USB is not an option.

On the Browse Network, I can't see the TV on Ubuntu, but I do see it on Windows

This is putting Ubuntu in unfriendly zone again. Its taking time to achieve goal but windows is already doing it.

Regards,
Jay Dave

I would say you are already familiar with windows, that's why it looks better for you. Linux is different, you need to learn how things work on linux to be able to use that efficiently.
Would be nice to explain what do you see on Windows and how did you achieve that. and what do you want to see on ubuntu and on your TV.

Good day Member,

Basically, if I go to windows -> Network Devices -> I can pick up a TV which is on IP but if I go to Ubuntu -> network devices, its not coming up.

I need to see this Ubuntu screen on the LG TV. USB, HDMI are not an option. The only option I have got is LAN Ethernet.

Thanks and regards,
Jay

Windows is probably using miracast or other proprietary protocol. There is a linux project called MiracleCast that implements the miracast protocol on linux but I do not know how well it works. It isn't that Ubuntu is unfriendly but that manufactures do not support linux.

I am going to try Miricalcast, but this computer doesn't have wifi as well. This is a Server on LAN. Do you think its going to work?

Also, if you have got an installation guide on Miricalcast?

Jay

Well,

there seems to be something else as a problem.

The TV is not being detected on the ubuntu system, that means, even if I install 10 softwears, it will not work with the TV as its not being detected.

how the TV is connected to the ubuntu system at all?

michaelk 04-06-2017 05:45 AM

Your correct since miraclecast is based on wifi I don't think it will work. The browse network on most file browsers only searches for windows shares or other computers running samba. I assume the Windows network browse feature searches for other protocols.

I don't have any good ideas at the moment for an alternative.

"screenshare" is remote desktop??

Can you install third party programs on WebOS? Pretty sure they have a vnc client.

screenshare is using the TV as an "external monitor" They do have a VNC client... Although not the same thing but it might be the best alternative.

I have MythTV backend running on LAN, my smartTV found it instantly and was able to play back files stored in backend.
