Ubuntu problem on my amd64
 

HI MY NAME IS NAVID..

I HAVE AN AMD64 SYSTEM

3800+ AMD64 SINGLE CORE ATHLON
AOPEN NCK804 NFORCE 4 MAINBOARD
512 MB KINGSTON DDR400
NVIDIA 256MB 6600 PCIXPRESS

WHEN EVER I TRY TO INSTALL LINUX OSeS IN MY PC IT HANGS OR IF INSTALLS them THEN IT LOGS OUT EVERY 10 TO 15 MINS...
I HAVE TRIED UBUNTU FIESTY 32BIT GUTSY 32BIT AND PC LINUX OS 2007
ALL ARE GIVING SAME PROBLEM...
now i have installed windows xp it is runnin flawlessly with no errors..i want to install ubuntu but i dont know why it is slow and it hangs my pc
plz help me coz i am a linux newbie... i love linux ...an reply me soon..

Check the HCL. Your hardware may not be compatible.

Have you tried the Ubuntu live cd (so without really installing Linux) or an other live cd like http://www.knoppix.org/? Did it work? Are there error messages?

yes i have tried Ubuntu fiesty and gutsy live Cds. but still same problem...

Hi, You say that you have an AMD 64 system I assume that this is a 64 bit processor. If it is you will need a 64 bit version of Ubuntu. Look at www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download in the middle of the page you can select whichever version you require, or ask for a free disc to be sent to you.

That's not true. A 64-bit system is fully capable of natively running a 32-bit OS. It's completely backwards-compatible. He just doesn't get the (almost non-existent) benefit of a 64-bit processor. Also, 64-bit versions are often more trouble then they're really worth.

If not, just keep an eye on things. The linux community has a tendency to find workarounds for things like this quickley... its possible your motherboard might magically find its way onto the compatibility list after a few kernel releases :)
