ubuntu no load

i have tried 5 times to down load and install Ubuntu. first download and disk burn-download with download manager than burn-download at 4x with verification and disk burn-download from Fedora and burn-download to USB.

Ubuntu will start with the blank lilac screen with two icons at the bottom, if i do nothing the monitor goes dead and no load. If i hit enter on first screen i get the language page, than the install page. At this point monitor goes dead and no load. I have even waited for ten minutes after monitor goes blank, also no load. I have deled my NVIDIA drivers thinking this could be a problem. I say again no load. I truly would like to take a look at Ubuntu. Any help would be appreciated.

An afterthought. my primary partition is Vista. I have alloted 44 GIG in simple secondary partition. Fedora and SUSE loads without any problem

Thanx Gary

Did you burn it as a iso file ?
UBuntu has a option called Checking disk for defects or something like that ?
Did you use that option ?

What make and model computer?
Do you have a cd drive?
Ubuntu live cd took a long time to load on my emachine, whereas other linux os load fairly fast.

computer is hp pavilion a1700a dual core 4GIG Ram 250GIG HD. CD is good and functioning. I have all the right tools. Something may be problematic in BIOS or possibly drivers. Either that or Ubuntu just does not like me. As before I have had success in loading and using Fedora, and SUSE. Have not been able to load Ubuntu-Mint and Kbuntu. Am i alone with this problem?

I have 2 ubuntu installations and 4 Debian squeeze installs, Ubuntu is nice ,but I'm actually doing pretty good with Debian Squeeze.
Everything has been easy. I haven't been posting about any problems installing anything. Now I can learn the software. My Ubuntu installations went well, but after updates I had to work on OS.

You may have already tried this but Do you get the help options when disk first loads up on screen, like options for pressing F1,F3 etc before pressing enter, you may need to load up in safe mode.
