Ubuntu logs
Hi Team,
My remote Ubuntu 11.04 machine has network issue where i cant connect to it. To track the issue, i want to enable the network error logs. Does anybody have an idea about it ?? Thanks guys, Cheers!! |
there is no such thing as a "network error log". what do you hope to see?
not a networking question, moved to Linux - Newbie. |
Some way to track network related issues with the machine by using ubuntu logs .. :(
|
sure, but what would be in them? There are so many ways you can look at a network, it doesn't make sense to "log" it. How about you back up and explain what problem you're having.

i have this virtual machine. i connect to it via ssh. suddenly the connection goes off-line and i cant reconnect for sometime but the machine is not shut-down. it comes back online when we restart it manually. so i thought the issue cant be tracked through logs.. :(

Well at the hardware level you might see something in dmesg or usualy log files in /var/log/messages, but you won't find logs for the "network". If the sshd process screws up, note that that's not networking, that's a program that happens to use the network.

Thanks again for the replay Chris,
we have hosted OpenMeetings on that ubuntu machine. we cant use that application as well. but machine is still on. I will look into those logs anyway. Thanks & Regards, Dasith |
what application?
|
sorry, i mean the web application(Openmeetings)
Thanks :) |
Oh right, sorry I get you now. well the nic may be going up and down if it's everything. Can you ping it at all? if it is going up and down /var/log/messages may well reference eth0 bouncing.

Thanks Chris, Cheers !! |
