ubuntu linux voice chat messenger guideline

dear gurus,

i recently installed ubuntu 9.04 on my hp laptop

my sound card working fine voice video all i check and test it

i do have account on msn hotmail,yahoo,gmail, none of them working

i need to do voice chat, and i try many messenger the voice chat could not success.i try all given, pigdin, amsn, emesense, Empathy

advise what should i do and try
