Ubuntu keeps crashing

Hi guys, I have a Asus UX305 with Ubuntu 16.04 installed. I'm experiencing random crashes, seemingly when I use LibreOffice writer: the laptop freezes and I have to restart.
I took a look at the logs, but nothing particularly striking there, I hope you might find something interesting.
The last crash happened at about 17.25
Kern.log:

From a search I've done of your issue, it looks like you ain't the only one that has had this problem.

Can you post the contents of /sys/class/drm/card0/error (if it exists) ?

You might also want to read the following as, it looks like it could be a bug in software somewhere along the line.

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=99423
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachm...action=viewall

EDIT:

I just done some more research about your issue.

Could you post the output of the following command as well:

Code:
lsb_release -a
As it seems that, if your using kernel version 4.8, it also comes with a updated graphics stack. I can't say this is definitely your problem but, it seems like it may well be a good possibility.

Hi, thanks for that.
The content of the error file appears to be this one:
Code:

I had a look at the two links, and the problem appears to be similar to the one described there, although my laptop doesn't recover from it, it's frozen and I have to hit the off button and switch the whole thing off.
And here is the output of the lsb_release -a

Code:
antobbo@antobbo-UX305CA:/sys/class/drm/card0$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID:	Ubuntu
Description:	Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS

cheers

It seems to be happening a bit more often now, for some strange reasons. SO what would happen if I remove libre office and use open office instead as this is becoming rather annoying and it's difficult to work, would that be a good workaround?

It may help but I can't promise you that it will solve your problem.

From the research I've done for ya (I've never seen that error before myself), it seems like it is probably a bug in the software somewhere along the line, weather that's a bug in LibreOffice, the kernel and/or a driver(s).

The common themes seem to be LibreOffice and Linux kernel version 4.x
Unless your a developer, you probably can't fix the "bug" in the software.

You can try using OpenOffice instead, you can also try upgrading your Linux kernel and see if that helps. I'm not sure what else to suggest tho.

Best of luck with it.

No, it isn't.

Have you tried updating LibreOffice? (or the kernel)

I would bet it's a bug in libreoffice writer. I'd report it and just wait a few days to upgrade.

I've removed Libre office and installed open office. So far no bug, it doesn't appear to crash, so far so good.

Well, it seems we're not done as yet.
I thought the open office solved my problem but the crashes still happen, although less than before when I was using libre office.
Anyway, today I've updated the kernel to 4.14, so it will be interesting to see what happens now
