Ubuntu Jackalope Newbie~OK to start with this distro?
I figured since there was a brand new Ubuntu release it would be best to start with one that was around for awhile. I put the Jackalope onto my PC (finally ridding the house of MS). I have a mac in the other room.
I'm guessing that linux releases can be buggy like mac/window stuff~but the "Update Manager" keeps popping up wanting me to update~can I just ignore/disable this for the time being until I'm used to things? Or am I being overly cautious? Also, would the update work directly, or would I need to download and burn another cd? (Changing from XP to Ubuntu was cake. Googled around till I figured out how to get the flashplayer going on Firefox, and fiddled around until I got sound, but hey that didn't take anytime at all~my 9 y/o son is working over the new OS right now, if there is anything not quite right he'll find it :D ) |
Great
Your farther than most! I agree about new "things" often having bugs; 9.10. fedora 12...etc I think 9.04 is rock stable dude if you wanna check out a customized 9.04; hit that phalanx-9.04 link below and yes I have 9.04 installed in like 3 diff partitions and have it updated fully no issues |
Hey thank you very much~it's been very simple at this point.

1. Congrats! Good luck and God Bless!:D
2. I used Ubuntu Karmic for a while, its really nice actually, although it was on my lappy.:p 3. I see you liked the Mac. Cairo-dock is a really cool dock that feels like Macs but has more features (My opinion). 4. LQ is a great place to come if you have a question. Theres all kinds of really nice people. Bye! leopard |
