Ubuntu Installation Problems

I am trying to install Ubuntu 12.04. The problem that I am having is that is see only my harddrive as one unit (not the 4 partitions that I have partition the drive into)and tells me that I don't have an operation system( which I have Windows XP Pro sp3.). I want to install Ubuntu as an duel operations system with Windows XP on my Toshiba Tecra M7- s7311. What do I need to do to get the Ubuntu Install CD to see the partitions and Windows XP oper, sys?

Ubuntu will not be able to read those filesystems without the help of special modules. It's reading it as one big block. Inside of windows delete one of the partitions and leave it as unallocated space then boot of the CD and it should see two partitions, the three windows ones and the one unallocated space.

Filesystems have exactly nothing to do with this, since the OP states that Ubuntu can't see the partitions, not that he is not able to mount them.
Most likely the disk is used as a dynamic volume (Microsofts proprietary attempt to create something like LVM). Linux is not able to handle dynamic volumes, so if that really is the case (check it in Microsofts partition manager) you have no other option than reinstall Windows on a basic volume and then install Ubuntu.
