In truth when I have a distribution that has problems starting on a particular machine I move on to another distribution. Most of the most popular distributions are about as good overall as the others.

Had the same with my DV6000.

Cure was to set video to 1024 X 768 at initial load. The default is vga which the 6000 does not like. To do this at boot of live cd look at the bottom of the screen and see the F keys I think it was F5 to set video. Hit the key and select 1024X768 from the drop down list.

After weeks of tying to figure things out myself...Many differents distro's and such. I have finally gotten Fedora Core 6 to work. I could not install with the Anacondaq GUI. In the middle of my disk format it would freeze up on me. Yet it installed just fine in text. After so many hours of trial and error I kinda figured the problem was the video driver. Now I have the Nvidia video card so I've had to download the proper driver from Nvidia's website. But I Had to do this from the text environment: type "wget" with the whole website spaced right after that. The file should download. Next use the "sh" command to install the driver...Follow through and the rest is history. Now myself I am still trying to figure out home to get my wireless card working on this blasted machine. Learn as you go...as long as you go with the flow...it is knowledge that you will come to know!!
