Ubuntu install

Hi guys, I have just bought a second-hand desktop put in some ram, bought a new hard drive. I am having trouble finding a good download of Ubuntu. I have burned to disk of Zorin. Every time I install it I then go into updates then get through most of 400 and something updates. Then it asks me to replace a file. once I do that it tells me I need to do a partial upgrade Then the upgrade programme freezes?
This has happened a few times now so getting a bit annoyed can someone please give me a link please that is not going to be an old ubunte and missing files when I download it.

I Downloaded from ubuntu website and copied to USB flash but when I tried to install it came up files were missing. That's why tried Zorin the smaller download and made a boot disk and having trouble described as above. Any help on this would be great thanks in advance !

Welcome.

The official 16.04 LTS Ubuntu Desktop downloads would be here:

https://www.ubuntu.com/download

I'd go for the Torrent rather than HTTP/HTTPS because it will be much faster to download and there is built-in error checking to ensure that you got the whole file correctly.

You did check to ensure that your USB stick has enough capacity right? What method did you use to transfer the image to the stick?

There's also Linux Mint which is similarly polished and based on Ubuntu:

You can buy super-cheap USB sticks on fleabay which report decent sizes,
but in reality they are rejects which cannot store the reported size.

Try checking your download against one of the checksums quoted on the download page.

e.g.
Code:
md5sum '/home/jeremy/.bittorrent/debian-9.1.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso'
gives (after some time)
Code:
a7ffd995b3b3e0f44dd8eed7a30afca8 /home/jeremy/.bittorrent/debian-9.1.0-amd64-DVD-1.iso

What program are you using to put the ISO onto the USB?

Thumbs up ubunte install

Thanks guys for your replies. Problem seems to be my usb sticks. I have by-passed them and used a cd disk to burn image and I now have ubunte and zorin in my computer so i can compare and see which i like best. Need to buy some new usb sticks and give it another go later thanks again!
