Ubuntu - How to see output during startup?

By default, Ubuntu shows the progress bar during the startup procedure. Is there a way to have it display the actual startup text, like in other distros? This would be really handy for when Ubuntu freezes during boot.

remove the word "quiet" from the grub boot entry. You can do this either in /boot/grub/menu.lst or you can hit "e" (I think, grub will tell you) in the grub menu. The first option will make the change apply at every boot, and the second option will only affect your current boot.
