UBUNTU GUI Problem-PLZ HElp

My System specifications are:
Dual Boot Windows XP Home and Ubuntu (the latest version can't remember the exact number)
CPU: INTEL p4 3.2 Mhz
RAM: 1024 MB
Hard Disk: 250 Gb
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon X700 Pro

I'm a newbie and i just installed Ubuntu onto my PC however i have a gui problem everytime i boot it up to log in it gives and error along the lines of fatal server error no screen found

i had a look at the log file and her is the section with the EE part that might be of interest:

Code:

(II)Primary Device is: PCI 01:00:0
(II)ATI: Candidate "Device" section "ATI Technologies,  INc. RAdeon X700 Pro (V410)".
(II) ATI: Unshard VGA not probed
(II) ATI: Unshared 8514/A not probed.
(II) ATI: Unshared MAch64 at PIO base 0x02EC not probed
(WW) ATI: PCI Mach64 in slot 1:0:0 could not be dtetected!
(WW) ATI: PCI MAch64 in slot 1:0:1 will not be enabled
because it conflicts with another non-video PCO device
(EE) No devices detected.

So does any one have any idea what i can do to fix it (if u need more info just tell me what and i'll post it up!) or should i just uninstall the whole thing and stick with windows

Oh and there were a couple of other warning near the top of the log one was

Code:

(WW) Open APM failed(/dev/apm_bios)(No such file of directory)

And the other had to do with the fonts i'll post it up if it is relevant

I appreciate anyone trying to help as you can tell i have no clue

Any links to sites that would help is also appreciated

Looks like you need to install the ATI drivers for your video card. Here is the link.

Oh, and btw you're probably using Ubuntu Hoary Hedghog which is the latest. Next one is Breezy Badger which, will be out in October.
