ubuntu gnome lost all menu entries for category sound and video

It has been like this a while.
Click Applications select sound and video.

What should be in there and how do I put whatever menu entries are supposed to be there back in there?

Also wine category has no entries. And I have some installed windows programs.

what desktop or WM are you using?

the applications get pulled out of
/usr/share/application/*.desktop files.
or (because I just read that one line stating gnome)
Application's menu missing from menu bar
might help
