Ubuntu commnad for installing 'tr '

I need to use tr command in my bash script and since it is not found in my linux distribution I tried to install it by using the following command:
sudo apt-get install tr

and it spitted out the following error message:
E: Couldn't find package tr

can someone let me know what is the command I need to use in Ubuntu linux to install tr and get it working.

Thanks.

tr is provided by coreutils but I doubt it is not already installed, since it provides most of the basic commands. Try
Code:
whereis tr
to have a clue about what's going on.
