Ubuntu CLI runlevel?
Hello,
I just installed Ubuntu 5.10, and was wondering what the runlevel is to enter the text based login. I was searching around on the net and saw a few people mention that I may need to change some of the rc.d settings also. This is my first Debian based distro, and I guess they do things a little differently. Any help would be appreciated. |
Apparently Ubuntu is configured to automatically run gdm in all runlevels if it's present. To disable this behavior for a given runlevel, say 4, edit /etc/rc4.d and comment out the gdm line. Then set initab to use runlevel 4, and you should be booting into a text console.

Thank you very much! It worked!
