Question ubuntu boot times--1st run?..need more enlightenment"knowledge" plz


how long should i see ubuntu screen in boot.... after many hurtles i got ubuntu on the disk made it into boot but i sit at ubuntu name screen indefanatly, my first attemt i sat with it for 10-15 but had earands do left it to run thinking as it is a 2005 built processer id give it a while i returned to a grey screen powered off back to windows login back off and tried ubuntu boot again sat 10 or so at ubuntu name again so i am trying another linux, as bodhi was a suggestion 2 have made in my curiosity for the system im trying to make some better function to ...good vista gone 7 rouge and 4 owners(second owners name stuill embedded after vista wipe 7 install and full account administrater and user changes, also needing little advise on what of hp i can wipe as well it has hp easy setup( core and fronted ),network and wireless assistant from 2-06, dvd play 3.0,solution center 8.0 quick launch imaging device functions 8.0 from 2015 also a fax modem and a intel graphics media accelerator drive(that one sounds important so it be a do not disterb?) thanx in advance for any enlightenment you may beable to throw my way...

Sometimes, depending on the distro, first run can take a long while, but that does sound excessive.

You may indeed have to try lighter distros.

Your post is very difficult to read since it is one long sentence with no punctuation. I expect most member will take one look at your post and move on. The first thing you need to do is to compare your hardware to the absolute minimum required by Ubuntu. You might also post some info on your hardware. You mention vista and windows 7 but it isn't clear which you now have if either. Have you tested the DVD on another computer to see if it boots to eliminate that as a possible problem.
