ubuntu aol chat

this kid at work has access to aol chat on xchat through his ubuntu machine.

i can't ask how he did it - the culture of the groupe prevents it. i have ssh access to machines outside of the company network - in the DMZ and beyond.

I have looked for a way to set up the chat - can one of you point me in the right direction. ?
