Ubuntu 9.10 Just installed on inspiron 4000, screen is broken up in three sections.

I just installed ubuntu 9.1 on an inspiron 4000. The screen looks like like its been split and I can't see the options to try to change display options. I can't post pictures here but if you have a way for me to, I have some pictures too.

There's something wrong with your display driver. It can probably be fixed:

Press <CTRL><ALT><F2> [ In the same way as you'd do a ctl-alt-del on windows ]

You'll get a text login screen.

Type your username then press ENTER
Type your password then press ENTER (your password may not be shown on the screen, at all. So just type it OK?)

Now type the following command:
Code:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
Give your password again.
Answer the questions.
When you have finished type
Code:
sudo reboot
Any better?

Welcome to LQ!

I'll try that

I got it to live boot by booting in safe graphics mode. I "DBANed" my HDD and am now installing 9.1. I will try your solution if I get the same problem when I reboot the computer on the HDD. Thank you for responding.
