how could i fix it in ubuntu 9.10

Don't even try fixing it. Ubuntu 9.10 has been unsuppoted since April 2011, we are now in September 2012. Download a version of Ubuntu, or any other system you like, that is supported and install it instead.

According to the link you posted this issue is already solved. So just copy over the files to a backup medium and make a fresh install of a supported Linux version.
