Ubuntu 9.04 Installation Issue on SUN Netra T1 105
Hi,
I am new to this and just got a SUN Netra 440MHz T1 105 with 512MB RAM, 2 19G SCSI drives and a IDE CDROM. I am having trouble loading Ubuntu 9.05 server iso via the CDROM. The CDROM driver does not get found and the installation aborts. The CDROM is a 24x toshiba XM-7002B. I can load the old Ubuntu server 7.10 but cannot update it. (would need some help to do that, too). Looking for some help. |
Can it boot from usb? If so you can always put ubuntu on a USB key and boot from that.

I am afraid that the Netra t1 does not have a USB.

If I recall rightly you should be able to update the 7.10 by just inserting the ubuntu 9.xx version.
It would pop up a message about doing a distro upgrade. Alternative method would be again in ubuntu 7 to configure apt-get to use the CDROM as a local repository and update from it. you would need to change the apt sources file to use the CD. you can look at these pages whioch offer examples to follow: There is lots of inmformation about performing an upgrade. Using an ISO image instead of a cd also works: http://www.munz.li/?p=10 http://www.ubuntugeek.com/upgrade-ub...ty-fawn-2.html http://kevin.vanzonneveld.net/techbl...buntu_desktop/ |
thanks for the hints. I got 8.04 loaded and it is working well after having changed the sources.list file to reflect the 'old-releases' versus the 'us.archive' pointers.
9.04 loads but I and having network issues: it seems that the driver is no longer there. Not sure why. I got an inexpensive 2-port USB PCI card and put it into the Netra T1 lot. 'dmesg' seems to find it (ie the drivers seem to be there). However, how do I mount it, ie what is the /dev/??? that I use? I had to configure the ide-cdrom in 'lam'. Thanks for the help. |
