Ubuntu 8.10 matrixview screen saver
 
Hey guys yes a newbiew to linux here. recently downloaded and dual ubuntu 8.10 with XP Pro. like the matrixview screen saver and wanted to change the default pictures to my own. I need step by step directions on how this is done. My pics are all in jpeg format. never seen or used linux before. Any help offered would be appreciated. Thanks all in advance.

Hi Wilenry,
I use KDE not Gnome but I guess the setup should be similar if not identical. Right click on your desktop and you should get a menu. Select "Configure Desktop" and then (surprise, surprise) "Screen Saver". You may have a long list of those. Got to the matrixviewer screen saver and click on the "Settings" button. You will see a box where you can put the directory where it should get the photos from. Just move your favourite photos to that folder. I haven't tested it but I assume it should handle .jpg's ok.

Actually, Gnome is different from KDE- You'll need to open the System->Preferences menu and select Screen Saver. The one you're looking for is Picture Folder, which, coincidentally, is exactly where you store the pictures you want it to use. And yes, it does jpg just fine.
