Ubuntu 8.04 without sound
Hi everyone!!
I recently installed Ubuntu 8.04 in a Sony Vaio laptop, series T. After installation I tried to watch a movie and I had no video or audio at all. After searching in some forums and installing some codecs I have video but no audio at all. I have been fooling around with gnome-alsamixer, nothing seems to be muted and now I could only gewt sound through the headphones, but very very low volume. Any clue if what is going on? Thanks in advance. |
Has sound cam out of the speakers before under Linux?
What sound device is in that notebook? Use command ' /sbin/lspci -v ' Brian |
Problem Solved!!!
I found another thread to solve the issue (do not have the link). But what I did is the following: 1.- Open volume control panel 2.- Select edit and preferences 3.- Check external amplifier in volume control preferences dialog if it is not already checked 4.- Close volume control preferences dialog 5.- Select switches tab in volume control window 6.- Uncheck External Amplifier Option 7.- Close Volume Control Window I do not even know what this instructions do (if someone could explain me it would be great), but now I have sound for DVDs and system sounds. Thank you very much for your help. |
Wow, that's some good info, I'm having sound troubles in 8.10 and I'll have to try that when I get home.
