Ubuntu 7.10, running live cd but see no taskbar(s)

Ubuntu 7.10 will be my first foray into Linux OS. In my reading on what to expect from running with live cd it seems that I should have access to the taskbar however I simply don't see one at all. Should the taskbar be available in Live CD 'mode'? If so, any ideas why I wouldn't see the taskbar? The only thing I can think of is my resolution which is 1280(or thereabouts)x1024 in WinXP but I'm not sure if that resolution is carries over to the Ubuntu Live CD implementation. Any assistance is appreciated.

Yes you should have a task bar. The Live CD should look something like the screenshot in this page:

Do you have a CRT monitor? If so, maybe the screen size needs adjusting.

Ace, I had done a Live CD boot a few times since yesterday and seen the issue each time. However, I just did a Ctrl-Alt-Del and clicked Logout on a whim. The login screen began a countdown to login automatically as 'user' and lo' and behold I see the taskbar now. Very odd but resolved. Thanks to all responders.

Just to close the loop, no CRT monitor matthewg. Also, thanks for the link. I came across that one as I was doing my homework on 7.10, good write up.
