I obviously still don't know enough, so I have a quick question. I used to have Ubuntu 7.4 and that initially had a problem with my Nvidia Geforce 7600 graphics card. I just recently replaced 7.4 with 7.10 and although everything seems to be fine, I just want to double check that my graphics card is supported without having to do any additional setup. Thanks for your time.
Your card (like most nvidia cards) is supported in Linux using the nv and nouveau opensource drivers or the official nvidia driver. If you need to use the official nvidia driver take a look here. You can check which driver is being used by looking at the driver section in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
