Ubuntu 16
Hi all. I have Ubuntu 15.04 installed on my PC.
I had 16.10 but i couldn't connect my ISP through DSL so i installed 15 which works fine. The 15 version is no longer supported so my question is if i should install another distro based on Ubuntu and which one? Thanks. |
The nearest distro to Ubuntu is generally considered to be Mint. If I were you I would set up a spare partition and experiment, while using Ubuntu 15 as your main distro until you find something better. But it might be worth while to try and find out what piece of software is getting in your way. My guess would be the kernel, since that's where all the networking stuff is done. You could try an experimental Ubuntu 16 with an Ubuntu 15 kernel and see if that works.

In addition to Mint, other systems based on Ubuntu are Kubuntu, Lubuntu and Xubuntu. Many others to choose from. It is not possible to answer your question about connecting to the internet as you have not posted any information on your network hardware??
Is 16.10 a typo? 16.10 will not be released until October so if you installed a pre-release alpha version you have volunteered to test it for Ubuntu/Canonical and report back problems to them. |
Ubuntu 16.04
@ yancek - sorry, it was Ubuntu 16.04 official LTS edition
i have read about this DSL problem, seems to be unsolved until now in Ubuntu 16.04 I have a ASRock MB with 4 BG, 500G HDD. I tried a few other (live) distros (Mint, Manjaro, etc.) and i can connect without problems. |

These differences are more particularly the case if it's actually a different team responsible for producing the flavour, which is the case for Kubuntu for example. |

Just as a thought, if 16.04 doesn't work, you could also try 14.04, which is another LTS version that is supported up until April, 2019. :) Regards... |

One of the solutions would be to buy a router, what i'll do tomorrow.... 10x. |

It might be cheaper to first test out other distributions. I'm not sure a router will resolve your issue. But on the other hand, if you really want 16.04, it might be worth a shot. ;) Regards... |
