Ubuntu 16.04 and AMDGPU refresh rate question

Is anyone able to give me a plain english instruction on how I can set the refresh rate for a monitor given Ubuntu 16.04LTS and AMDGPU hardware.

The dialog for display settings doesn't list refresh rates, and the GFX hardware is displaying interlaced, not progressive

It's not a plain English answer, but the attached bash script let me set the screen resolution and refresh rate when I was using a 1680x1050 monitor. YMMV
