Ubuntu 15.04 vivid, fresh install. What is default sound system?
 

Hi,

Although I've been using linux several years back. I am not a fast learner so here goes a question I should understand long ago.

I have installed fresh Ubuntu 15.04 netinstall.

After that install xorg and windows manager.
Sound was working.
Then I wanted to check the mixer and I used to alsamixer, and strange the app was not there.
I have tried all alsa* binaries but none of them was installed.

How can I findout what sound system is running?

But the question is how sound is working now?

I dont have alsa installed.

If you have made a minimal netinstall then no sound system is installed. If you want to use alsa you will have to install it first.

Yes I know I need to install it, I was wondering how come sound works without it?

I have not made an Ubuntu install for a long time, but my guess is that it install the Alsa libraries (package alsa-base), but not the tools (packages alsa-utils, alsamixer, ...).
