Ubuntu 15.04: Frequent crashes, slow, slow working

Frequent crashes; nothing changes in the monitor, just nothing works after a crash. Happens about every other day; i use this computer many hours daily. No indication beforehand that a crash is coming.

Frequently get a warning that some app is working but stalled and do i want to continue or close it.

Thanks for your help

Firstly, how much memory does your computer have, and what's the CPU? It may be that it's not powerful enough for Ubuntu.

Secondly, boot up the the Ubuntu installation disk, enter the menu, and run the memory test. Faulty RAM could cause random crashes.

Hi, DavidMcCann, thanks for the reply. I've been running Ubuntu on this computer for a few years, always had a bit of problems and always thought the next version would fix my problems. I'll check what you suggest.

Thank you, Habitual, the problems with my computer and irregular and now-and-then, so power supply works most of the time.

When the computer crashes, i re-boot and it works ok...until next crash.
