Ubuntu 14.04 on ESXi 5.5 with MySQL 5.6: Cannot connect

I have MySQL 5.6 installed on Ubuntu 14.04 that is installed on ESXi 5.5

I have the server running and locally I can access it. I cannot access it from outside the VM. IP is right, it is running, netstat says it is listening on 3306.

Im not sure what else to do. Firewall is turned off on Ubuntu.

This could be all sorts so lets narrow it down..

can you ssh to the server from outside?

If you can you've narrowed it down to just the MySQL stuff (ie it might only be listening on loopback)

If not then maybe your networking is configured weird on your centos box or your virtual switch on ESXi is misconfigured.
