Ubuntu 11.10, binding mouse buttons to unity actions

Hello there! I have a mouse with two extra buttons on the side (and a left and right scroll) can I bind these to actions or keystrokes based on the currently selected window? I have tried looking for an X utility, but I don't know how well it will work with unity. I want to be able to (similar to going back and forwards in history on most browsers with said buttons) switch through windows for the current workspace. Looked through compiz, couldn't find anything that worked. I am not afraid to use the terminal for utilities either (maybe there is an emacs command for this :D)
