Ubuntu 11.04 freezes during boot up
 

I upgraded from Ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04. I worked out all the screen changes etc it hasn't missed a beat until now after a week of usage it freezes during bootup it gets as far as the introductory melody then freezes. It sounds as if it goes into a loop during playing the tune. Any ideas anyone they would be appreciated because I'm involved in an anti-malaria project if I can't solve this I've lost research data which will take time to recalculate. If all else fails Ill go back to 10.10. I'm using a different computer for this post driven by Vista

You can gain access to your lost data by making a Bootable CD drive.
1. To make a bootable CD, download an Ubuntu iso image and burn it to a CD.
2. Then put the CD into your computer's CD Rom drive and start the computer. (Note: you may need to make sure that your CD Rom is listed as the first bootable device in the bios.)
3. Once booted. Open Accessories;Terminal.
4. Enter the following command to open an administrator browser:

gksudo nautilus

5. Use the Administrator browser to access your hard drive and backup anything you need on a usb drive or somewhere else.

Before the boot freezes, hit ESC, or CTRL+ALT+F1, and look at the kernel output. Wherever it stops is the problem. Post the last kernel message line (printk output) displayed.

This is my second reply. The first has disappeared into cyber space. I won't go into detail. I discovered the CMOS on my PC used UTC while my local time is 10 hrs ahead of UTC time. 1500 local is 0500 utc. I set the CMOS date/time in UTC then using Ubuntus system I manually set the local date time I waited about 30 mins then changed the setting to automatic. It has been ok since I will know if it is ok over the next couple of days as each 24 hrs date time turns over.

The system has been running without a hitch for a couple of days this included two date/tine changes I'd say I've solved my problem

Afternoon (where I am) Ubuntu is the only distro I have on my pc, and I am running 10.10.
, so far great terrific.

Update Manager upgrade to 11.04 ok. downloads and does its thing as it always does.

Ok I make a rescue disk. About the third time of booting ...gets to desktop page so far all ok.

Then it just freezes.. ok press alt+ctl & F1 login & passwords incorrect WTF

Tried half dozen time. no good. FI

Is there an answer to this situation????

Thankyou to those who replied to my request. I've solved the problem with my computer freezing during boot up. The graphic driver offered when upgrading ubuntu to 11.04 and 11.10 was the problem. The driver itself was also labeled as an upgrade for my graphics card I disabled it and installed an earlier driver problem solved. My system has booted up everytime without any problems. During an earlier upgrade forget which version now and all upgrades since my system had no sound. I discovered the sound driver installed with the upgrade was the problem it was for a digital stereo set up I disabled the driver and installed a analogue stereo driver problem solved.
