Ubuntu 10.10 Update Manager not able to install updates

Installed Macbuntu on my new installation of Ubuntu 10.10. At onset was able to run update Manager with no problem. However after a couple of days and since I did the theme to make my ubuntu look like a Mac...it doesn't want to install any updates it receives. It says another program is running but I'm not running anything other than the Update Manager. Any suggestions as to how to fix this or should I drop the theme and go back to the regular window theme that came with the version of Ubuntu 10.10 I downloaded from the main site. Any ideas, and please be descriptive in the fixes as I'm a newbie.
