Ubuntu 10.10 performs restart on shutdown
Running Ubuntu 10.10 on a Gateway laptop (new). When I select "shutdown," it does a restart instead. All latest updates and additional drivers are installed. I may have upgraded to 10.10 from 10.04 - can't recall now. I have 10.10 on a Toshiba laptop that works fine.

Not sure what specifically might be causing that, as I haven't used Ubuntu for a while, and the last I tried was 10.04.
But try running as root: Code:
shutdown -h now |

I have this same issue occuring
I have the same issue. sudo shutdown now doesn't do anything different. I suspect BIOS issues but haven't turned anything up yet. In fiddling around I did see messages indicating that the system was intending to restart as it was shutting down. Odd.
Ubuntu i86 (32 bit) 10.10 (Sorry, it's long) Here's my lshw output: Quote:

The shutdown issue is a bug but there are workarounds.
